Railfans and residents of Roanoke turn out on the first 4th of July since the "Spirit of Roanoke" was restored after 20 years of lying dormant.

611 Arrives in Roanoke

With the exception of a line of stored ex-UP SD90/43MACS in the foreground Roanoke yard is relatively empty for the evening arrival of J Class 611.

N&W 611 steams into the morning light past the iconic N&W CPL's at Bowler, Virginia. The locomotive is pulling the Sunday morning Cavalier excursion, NS 958 toward Petersburg, Virginia.
