The 8600s were full so the last order of this model went into the high 8500s. This one is a helper unit awaiting its next shove.
In the desert drainage is a major concern, note the sometime trail, sometime swale in the foreground. The note Southern California "haze" is not too bad this day.

A late version of the model. Note the extended bulge just in from of the dynamic brake intakes, added to accomodate the newly mandated exhaust silencer (boo, hiss).
This is a short nose version of the ubiquitous tunnel motor fighting its way up the grade on the Palmdale cutoff.

Looking like an example of a bad weathering job, ("Hey, it's not prototypical"), this battered workhorse is in the helper pocket awaiting a westbound.
