On a beautiful November morning the photographer was lucky to catch an old Alco Century working the Alpena Yard job. According to sources the old D&M Alcos will be gone by the end of 2009.

Shot to pieces.
This old crossbuck has lead a rough life. Today she is bent, had bullet holes through here, and probably more. However she still stands strong and guards motorists from Lake State Railway trains.
LSRC 798 leads a shorter train 326 South in the last rays of light, pulling out of yard limits.

The leaves are just beginning to change color and fall along the Huron Sub in Alpena. Here we see LSRC M420W pulling past some color and the ATi Corp.
A matched pair of LSRC Alcos pull South at Franklin Street. Elevation for the shot was gained by standing ontop of my van.
Matching sets of Lake State blue are getting harder to find on the Huron Sub. as the new GP40M-3s (painted in TFM) tend to dominate the line. It's always a treat to get an Alco leading.
