Derailment in the Feather River Canyon. Just after 3am on November 25th, 2014, a westbound grain train derailed near Rich Bar, California in the Feather River Canyon. The train carrying corn from Nebraska to Traver, California dumped eleven cars off a steep cliff near the waters of the Feather River. The Feather River feeds Lake Oroville and the California Water Project (SoCal water). Some corn did spill into the river itself but all of the cars remained out of the water. Union Pacific responded quickly and planned to have the rail line open 21 hours after the derailment. This image shows just how treacherous mountain railroading can be. jakemiillephotography.com
