The whine of dynamic brakes breaks the silence of the Mojave Desert as a quartet of recently rebuilt GP60Ms (now called GP60M-3 by the railroad) bring BNSF Railway train L-CAL1161-13 across a dry creek at Siberia as it travels the 99 miles from Barstow to Cadiz, California, to leave its train for interchange with the Arizona & California Railroad. Engines 144, 101, 119 and 148 are all former Santa Fe engines. In fact, every GP60M built by EMD was delivered to the Santa Fe. Note that the bridge still wears a very faded Santa Fe logo on it, which was applied in the early 1960s. (February 13, 2017)
