Farewell to Passenger Rail Service Here. After today, passenger trains will cease to run on these tracks. With tomorrow's switch to the $181 million "inland Point Defiance bypass," Amtrak trains will no longer skirt the Puget Sound south of Tacoma. All that will be left on this line will be the UP and BNSF freights that have been cited for the switch due to delays and being a hindrance to increasing passenger train frequency.
