On February 17, 2018, California Department of Transportation coach 5008 was sitting by itself at the Bakersfield, California, Amtrak station. This car was built by St. Louis Car Company in 1968 as Penn Central/New Jersey Department of Transportation Arrow I MU car 122 (also known as “Jersey Arrows” or, officially, as Pennsylvania Railroad MP85E6 class cars, numbered 100-134), converted by Morrison Knudsen on December 12, 1987, to NJT Comet 1B, or "Comarrow," cab car 5165. NJT 5165 (Caltrans 5008) was the first rebuilt in this series, in March 2013. (More detailed info on these cars at the Comarrrow page.) CDTX acquired these cars in 2013, and classes them as "California Comet" cars. CDTX 5008 is named "The Redwood." (Thanks to Flickr's "R36 Coach" and Charles Freericks for help with the history of this car.)
