As with most railroads in the Twenty-First Century, the Indiana Harbor Belt has purchased locomotives that emit fewer harmful emissions than older locomotives. The IHB owns four National Railway Equipment (NRE) 3GS21B low-emission switchers, numbered 2140 through 2143. On September 27, 2018, IHB 2143, named "Town of Riverdale," was in the roundhouse at the railroad's Gibson Yard in Hammond, Indiana. These locomotives feature a dark green stripe, instead of the usual black, to signify that they are "green technology" locomotives.
