Part II Sand Train. An hour after this train passed through Coal Creek Canyon the westbound sand train crawled past the site of former Tunnel 28 on its journey towards the Continental Divide. The strenuous grade thru the Tunnel District has took a toll on this hot August Day, The second two motors are black with exhaust smoke from the 28 tunnels and the doors on the engine sides are all open to help cool the motors from overheating. This sand is headed for the large oil field supply depot in Wellington Utah. Most of the sand is trucked from there to the Uintah Basin waxy crude oil fields. There is a new fracking sand mine opening in the basin next month that will likely have a large effect on how much high quality northern frack sand will be needed.
