A cut of three tank cars rolls by the locomotives of BNSF local L-CAL0081-12, the Second La Mirada, as the crew performs a "flying switch" move. The engines needed to get on the east end of these cars, and so they uncoupled on the move and then sped up to get ahead of them. Meanwhile, the switchman threw the switch after GP60 196 and GP60M 131 passed by, allowing the tank cars to roll past while the brakeman riding aboard them set the brakes once they were where they wanted them. Now the power will head east again, and back onto the tank cars (with BNSF 131 on the point) off BNSF’s Kimberly Lead and back onto the mainline (in this case, Metrolink’s Orange Sub) once again, then reverse direction yet again and head about a mile further to the BNSF’s San Bernardino Sub and then continue back to the yard in La Mirada.
