Once in a while, one of Union Pacific’s routes through the Los Angeles Basin gets shut down by maintenance, or a lack of maintenance, and some hot UP trains have to detour on the BNSF Railway. On the afternoon of March 8, 2007, A UP intermodal train passed eastward through Fullerton, on BNSF’s San Bernardino Sub, in order to avoid the congestion in the San Gabriel Valley. UP SD70M 4422 is the lead engine, MUed with UP SD70M 4838, UP SD70ACe 8310 and SD70M 4512 to get a load of containers (and three autoracks) on their way across the country.
