Milwaukee Road’s Pacific Extension main line crossed the Missouri River at Lombard and began the climb following Sixteen Mile Creek through appropriately-named Sixteen Mile Canyon, eventually reaching the crew change point of Harlowton and the end of electrification. In this view above the former townsite of Lombard on the morning of June 25, 2020, the abandoned Milwaukee grade crosses Sixteen Mile Creek twice on small bridges, while in the background, an eastbound BNSF grain train passes by the empty curved bridge over the Missouri.
