Buried deep in the Canadian National's Woodcrest Shops (in Homewood, Illinois) is Illinois Central SW14 1495, wearing the markings of parent company Canadian National. This switcher was built by EMD in June 1951 as IC SW9 9448. This engine was later numbered Illinois Central Gulf 448 following the IC's merger with the Gulf Mobile & Ohio, and in 1981 the ICG rebuilt it into SW14 1495. Curiously, this locomotive was in the exact same place and orientation when I last visited on September 30, 2018. Photographed on railroad property with permission and full PPE and Covid-19 precautions.
