Canadian Pacific SD70ACU 6644 wears the camouflage colors applied to Royal Canadian Air Force "Spitfire" fighter planes flown at the Allied invasion of Normandy, France, on June 6, 1944. This locomotive was assigned to BNSF Railway train Q-NSABAR6-20, a Guaranteed Service Intermodal train operating from Norfolk Southern’s Ashland Avenue Yard in Chicago, Illinois, to Barstow, in California’s Mojave Desert. Along the way, some BNSF locomotives were added, and always behind the D-Day engine – a classy move by BNSF crews. This train was due into Barstow between 4:30 and 6:00 am, but fortunately for a handful of railfans, it was sitting in West Daggett as the sun rose. At 6:52, the train began moving again, as seen here. It would arrive in Barstow, six miles to the west, at about 7:10 – more or less. (Daggett, California – November 23, 2021)
