Saturday morning in small town America, Windsor, Connecticut. Folks are walking their dogs and going for coffee, the letter carriers are loading up their mail trucks for their last runs of the week, and the train has pulled into town. Amtrak Northeast Regional 147 will hit up numerous such towns this day on its journey down to Roanoke, Virginia. The majority of trains on Amtrak's New Haven-Springfield line are captive three-car shuttles, so seeing this Saturday-only nine-car train is a treat.
With double tracking, CT Rail, a new regional service, and restoration of Springfield Union Station, the Connecticut Valley line has become once more an exciting place for train watching.
