Heading west from Blue Island, Illinois, to San Bernardino, California, is BNSF Railway automobile train B-BLUSBD1-17. A pair of Dash 9-44CWs, BNSF 40148 and Norfolk Southern 9861, are the power for this train. In 2022’s world of endless look-alike GEVOs, two 18 to 20-year-oldish Dash 9-44CWs seems like archaic power, but over on Union Station’s Track 27 is a real throwback locomotive: Recently restored Santa Fe SD45-2 5704, resplendent in its 1976 to 1978 Bicentennial paint job.
