Viaduct Crossing. MARC Train 844 (MARC 35 leading, MP36PH-3C MPI, 2011) crosses the Patapsco River in Elkridge, Maryland over the historic Thomas Viaduct on June 10, 2022 in beautiful sunshine. Completed on July 4, 1835 by the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, it remains the world's oldest multiple arched stone railroad bridge. Originally the B&O RR "Washington Branch" it is today part of the CSX Capital Subdivision.
From B&O RDCs to MARC bilevel coaches pulled by electric locomotives and diesels, the Maryland commuting scene has evolved, while trolleys, aka light rail vehicles, are back.
