Passing the Amtrak station in Fullerton as it heads east out of Los Angeles' Hobart Yard is an Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe Railway freight, with SD45-2s 5646 and 5640, along with an FP45, for power. Then, as now, Fullerton was often a magnet for kids who wanted to see trains … although, most likely, these kids were simply waiting for a westbound Amtrak San Diegan to arrive. Note the classic "Herby" chalk marking on the closest San Luis Central refrigerator car! (Fullerton, California – August 3, 1973)
