Happy Birthday From The Post Road Fan Club! On the 52nd birthday and creation of Amtrak as the National Rail Passenger Corporation on May 1, 1971, perhaps one of the most appropriate places to visit was the Post Road Branch. On May 1, 2023, Amtrak Train 449 (Lake Shore Limited) passed by Duck Pond Road in Castleton-on-Hudson, New York on time with AMTK 120 (P42DC) leading the usual consist, which will be added to the cars from Train 49 at the Albany-Rensselaer, New York station for the trip to Chicago, Illinois. This trackage was opened in 1842 by the Albany and West Stockbridge Railroad, and was ultimately inherited by the Boston & Albany and later New York Central and Penn Central. The original Amtrak map in 1971 did not include service between Albany, New York and Boston, Massachusetts. In 1972, Penn Central abandoned the line and removed the track, but after receiving ownership in the division of PC assets from the creation of Conrail, by 1979 Amtrak had reinstalled track and reopened the route for the service that continues to present day.
