Switching cars in Guadalupe, on California's Central Coast, is Southern Pacific SD7R 1500. Built by EMD in January 1953 as SP SD7 5292, this engine was renumbered to SP 2713 in the railroad's massive 1965 renumbering. In 1973 it was renumbered again, becoming SP 1413. Sent to the railroad’s Sacramento shops, it was released on January 26, 1979, having been rebuilt and renumbered yet again, to SP 1500. After 42 years of reliable service, it was retired on October 16, 1995 and scrapped in May 1997 at Levi Metals, in Fresno CA. (Guadalupe, California – September 5, 1981)
