Honoring one of NJ Transit’s predecessor railroads, the Erie Railroad, is NJTR GP40PH-2B 4210. This locomotive emerged from General Motors Electro-Motive Division’s factory in suburban Chicago in October 1968 as Penn Central GP40 3182. With the PC part of the merger that created Conrail, this locomotive then became CR GP40 3182. It eventually found its way to NJ Transit, which had it rebuilt into a GP40PH-2 (which NJYT classifies as a GP40PH-2B). In October 2023, the 4210 was repainted black and yellow and lettered for the old Erie Railroad, joining a few other Heritage units, such as CNJ 4109 in Central Railroad of New Jersey markings, on the system. NJTR 4210 is shoving on the rear of four-car train 64, which originated in Port Jervis NY, rolling into the Secaucus Junction station before winding up its run in Hoboken NJ.
