Laying over for the weekend in McCook Yard are a pair of diesels – BNSF SD40-2 1958 and "GP39-3" (ex-GP30) 2548 – which handle duties on locals between here and Brush, Colorado. This SD40-2 was built in March 1972 by Electro-Motive Division as Burlington Northern subsidiary Colorado & Southern 903. Eventually, the BN absorbed its two subsidiaries (C&S and FW&D) and this locomotive became BN 6351 – same paint, but a different roadnumber and the C&S initials were removed. With the 1995 merger of BN and ATSF, this unit acquired a third identity: BNSF 6377. In July 2009, BNSF renumbered it to BNSF 1958. (McCook, Nebraska – July 13, 2024)
