The Santa Fe Railway and Route 66 were nearly synonymous, since much of the Santa Fe paralleled the "Mother Road." On February 3rd, 2014, BNSF Railway train Q-NYCLAC1-01A (Guaranteed Service Intermodal; New York NY to Los Angeles CA), with run-through power on the head-end (Norfolk Southern's Pennsylvania Heritage unit, 8102, NS Dash 9-40CW 9898 and BNSF Dash9-44CW 670) speeds through little Amboy, California in the Mojave Desert. When Interstate 40 opened, traffic on Route 66 disappeared and Amboy because a dusty shadow of its former bustling self.
