Metrolink’s highest-numbered F59PHI, 887, is handling train 686 (Los Angeles to Irvine), arriving 20 minutes late (and just after sundown) due to a fiery accident ten hours earlier, in which Metrolink train 681 hit a stalled recreational vehicle in Santa Fe Springs, causing a fire that closed both mainlines for a few hours, and one mainline all day. So this evening’s 20-minute delay is a great improvement over the two-hour delays (and some cancellations) earlier in the day! Not long after this, in the early evening, a car was hit in Santa Ana and a trespasser was struck and killed near San Onofre. Not a great day to commute by rail in southern California!
