Grand Trunk Western GP40-2 6406, being serviced at the Belt Railway of Chicago’s Clearing Yard, was built by EMD in October 1972 as Detroit Toledo & Ironton 406. The DT&I was acquired by the GTW in 1980, and at first retained DT&I logos and markings on locomotives painted in GTW’s red, white and blue scheme, until December 1983 when the DT&I was completely absorbed into the GTW. And in December 1991, parent railroad Canadian National applied their then-new CN North America colors and logos to GTW locomotive es as well, while retaining the GTW reporting marks.
