Vermont Rail System train VTR HJRD-20 is enroute from Hoosick Jct., NY to Rutland, VT, with six State of Vermont-leased GP38-2s. Led by VTR GP40-2L 310 and SD70M-2 432, the GMTX 2687, 2612, 2601, 2329, 2617, and 2649, were brokered through Progress Rail and are GATX-owned. The units are being leased by Vermont to facilitate 3-4 months of detoured VRS trains between Burlington and Bellows Falls on the New England Central Railroad, while the state constructs a new rail tunnel in Middlebury. The project will see the removal of the VRS Northern Subdivision for the period and traffic rerouted over the GMRC from Rutland to Bellows Falls and then on the detour route.
