For decades the Denver & Rio Grande Western operated a Ski Train every winter, ferrying ski enthusiasts up into the Rocky Mountains despite how bad the weather might be. Today, this train is still operated, but now by Amtrak. And Amtrak usually has colorful wraps added to some of the cars, in dedicated Ski Train service, each winter. In 2017 the former F40PH, Amtrak 406, (since converted to a Non-Powered Cab Unit) that was used on the carrier’s 40th Anniversary Train, was the cab car on the Ski Train, and also wore a colorful wrap to match the three wrapped cars. The Ski Train is seen here at Denver’s Union Station, preparing for another run up to Winter Park. (Denver, Colorado – March 3, 2017)
