Having conquered Cajon Pass, the Pacific Railroad Society's 75th Anniversary special (symboled UP AMT966-02) heads across the Mojave Desert on its way from Los Angeles to Bakersfield. This is UP's Mojave Sub, the former SP "Palmdale Cutoff" (one of the last mainlines built in the United States, having been completed in 1967). Before arriving in Bakersfield, this train, led by Amtrak's Heritage I diesel, P42DC 156 and Dash 8-32BWH 510, will also have to traverse the Tehachapi Mountains.
