A Wide Variety at Westchester Yard.
The NYC Subway is unusual among rapid transit systems in that it has a dedicated fleet of railbound maintenance equipment used by in-house forces to perform work throughout the system. Westchester Yard in the Bronx is the home base for maintenance equipment assigned to the A Division (IRT) side of the system, and thus there is always a diverse assortment of equipment resting in the yard - which also serves as the only yard for the 6 train. Seen here are numerous diesel locomotives, including R156 no.s OL912, OL913, OL914, and OL930; hopper cars, including R80 no.s H281 and H287; R148 tamper TP238; many R161 rider cars, including no.s RD409, RD412, and RD421; and a plethora of flat cars. Also visible are some out-of-service R62A passenger trains, which are not needed for weekend service levels.
