Amtrak 4, the eastbound Southwest Chief, has arrived at Fullerton, the first stop in its way from Los Angeles to Chicago. Oddly, on this evening, the train was routed on Track 3, rather than the usual Track 1, which requires it to cross to Track 2 immediately after departing. As a result, a northbound/westbound Metrolink commuter train had to hold at Fullerton Junction (just out of this frame) waiting for Amtrak 3 to get out of town. One of Amtrak’s 40th Anniversary engines, which wear historic paint schemes, is leading the Chief this evening – in this case, P42DC 184 wearing the carrier’s Phase IV paint scheme (and teamed with P42DC 147).
A continuously growing album of photos that IMHO reveal the awesome and seldom-seen beauty of the railroad world from the dimming of day to dawn's early light! From dusk to dawn, trains roll on! (I'm still finding gems of sunset-to-sunrise surprises!)
